We are so glad you are considering St. Matthew's School! Our school has a long history with the military – it is the only school in the world built principally through the generosity of military members for their children's education.
Founded by Father Ruef, the senior Catholic Chaplain at Offutt Air Force Base in 1961, the school was begun when several hundred Catholic military families were transferred to the Strategic Air Command headquarters. Local Catholic schools were at capacity, so thanks to Father Ruef, key SAC leaders, the local business community, and others, the Cardinal Spellman School was born!
In June 1996, Cardinal Spellman School became part of the Omaha Archdiocese's newest parish, St. Matthew the Evangelist, and changed its name to St. Matthew School. Though our name has changed, we have remained dedicated to providing military families with a solid Catholic education for their children.
Many of our families are active duty or retired military, and several key members of our staff and teachers are retired military or are military family members. With so many military families on our campus, we know that transitioning to a new school can be challenging. That's why we offer:
- A faith-based community that is safe and welcoming to all!
- Small class sizes to help your children integrate more easily into the community.
- Individualized instruction from dedicated and highly qualified teachers.
