Mr. Carter Leeka- Music

  • Mr. Leeka has been an educator, musician and arts advocate. During more than 30 years of teaching, he has developed and taught interdisciplinary-based courses at the elementary, secondary and college levels. His music classes often include activities related to art, poetry, drama and movement, as well as history, science and cultural studies. He is excited to have the opportunity to share music and the arts with his students.
  • Mr. Leeka has presented classes for Metropolitan Community College’s “College for Kids” and VSA Arts of Iowa’s “Arts for Children”. He serves as a mentor for Joslyn Art Museum “Thursdays for Teachers”. In previous positions he organized music contests and honor music festivals, and hosted the combined Iowa and Nebraska Art Educators 2012 Conference. His experience in educational and professional theater settings has included acting, directing and technical work. Mr. Leeka holds a BFAE in Music Education from Wayne State (NE) College and a MA in Music Performance from Ball State (IN) University.
  • He and his wife Kim have been married for 19 years. Their extended family includes 7 children and 6 grandchildren, plus their cat Bob.
